Summary

Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Portal is an app that streamlines event management for Volunteer Sites. It removes the pain paperwork for waivers, timesheets, and admin with an innovative, seamless user interface. My role was to design all UIs related to the project. I collaborated with QA, Development, and Stakeholders to launch this project.

Discovery

I decided to understand our product from the customer’s perspective through user groups. I had event coordinators walk me through several pain points they have when managing volunteers on site, and the way they struggled with managing all the paperwork was really eye-opening for me. There were simply too many steps in the process.

Design

Seeing is believing, and userflows finally “clicked” for the client after I had them play with my Xd prototype. These prototypes were also used in UserTesting with 5 Event Coordinators to confirm the usability of the application.

Wrap Up

While the whole project was a huge learning experience, I especially loved learning about how H4H sites work. Working through user flows and learning how this WebApp could lighten the site managers workload and help them have an even bigger impact.
